Every summer I am fishing ura and kola rivers .on the north coast of russia. Here the salmon runs are stable and easy to reach by road no helicopters.
The fish on these rivers are impressive averaging around 20lb in June. 30lb are common a every year the 40lb barriers are broke several times and 50lb fish still get caught.
This fishing is reasonably priced unlike other russian destinations. No helicopters are needed as it is all done by road through norway. Prices are around 2000 euros for fishing. Guide and simple accommodation and food.
Making it accessible to the average guy.these rivers are bucking the trend elsewhere for atlantic salmon fishing and are actually improving year on year.
People are not catching 10 small salmon in a day like the white sea rivers. But it is very possible to catch 2 or more 20lb plus fish in a day.
Every year one or two members change plans or pull out so occasionally I have space im group if any body would like to join me in the future or would like more info send me a pm.
I must stress this is proper fishing. It puts alot of demands on tackle and fishing ability and its not silver service but then again nor is the price. However its the best value and quality salmon fishing for large msw Atlantic's I have found. And I have been chasing them all over the world contact me anytime if you are interested. I always thought russia was out if reach for an average guy like me but not on these rivers the smallest fish I landed last time was 20lb

I have fished the Kola for many years.
Are you fishing in zone 3 ?, I presume from Junction down to Monica ?
I presume with Chavanga, or Seppo. Both good guys.
Although it can be great , it can also be crowded. Certainly not exclusive.
I have fished the full Kola, when back in the day when you had full access to the whole of zone 3. Now the top half is totally out of bounds, and belongs to the lodge at the top. I have now heard, Junction pool has also gone over to the lodge, and talk next year Monica ( best pool on river ) is going over to the lodge. the lodge is not cheep, 5 to 7k Euro per week.
My main prob with the Kola was the crowds, and especially when locals walk straight in front you and start throwing spinners. I would get up early 5am just to get on the water before the groups arrived. Iv seen 12 folk fishing Monica, bit like train station.
so I advise folk do their homework first. Also some these packages include the Ura for a day out of their week. I do not recommend this river, crowds is not the word. great getting spinners cast over your line. Also check you have a guide with a boat every dy. Iv seen some clients being dumped at a pool no guide no boat, and fishing in group of 5 to 10.
As has been said this river can be good, but make sure and ask questions before you go. Will we have guide with boat for full time ? Can we fish early hours, and how much extra ? Is it Kola only ? ( not Kitsa or Ura )
Top time , 2nd week June. For big fish last week May, first 2 weeks June. Then 1st week July summer fish and grilse.
My average fish in mid June would be 12lb to 15lb. Per week at that time normally 2 round 30lb, however their are some big fellows around.

These are public rivers and they do get local fishing pressure just as would any other public river ... But there is enough water to go around.

The fishing can be very good.

It does greatly help to have a Russian friend to fish with ... !!!

Reasonable priced are all rivers with public access, where you can go by car and live in the tent (as locals do), not in the fancy camp with helicopter transfers. Licenses usually sold in the booth somewhere near the river, or in camp sites.

I particularly liked river Titovka. It's located between Murmansk and Norwegian border (go by highway E105/A138 from Murmansk or Elvenes, Norway).
There's beautiful big waterfall, impassable for fish, and lot of salmon concentrated near this "dead end" area.
The river isn't huge as Kola, moderately sized, easy to wade and read the water. Locals usually live in tents along the river, and there are many camping sites (same as in Ura). The license booth located in small camp, near the waterfall.

The one problem - part of the river is located in "Border security zone of Russia" (area with restricted access), so for foreigners it requires entry permit from FSB , booked in advance

I have done the same, with Russian friends. I don’t think I’d pay lodge prices to fish this river, but it’s great to do with friends and can be very inexpensive. I’ve definitely had my line cast over by spin fishermen, but that mainly happened in Zone 2. It’s sucks to hear Zone 3 has lost a lot of water to the lodge. There is some great water up there. It was worth some really long walks on the train tracks (be careful!).

This is a word of warning for anyone intending to fish Kola river in 2020, in 2019 the lisence system had completely changed , basically so the governors of the river could make maximum profit it appears .

They were selling licenses to too many people day and night and they was simply not enough to go around.

Also this season they was an extremely low run of fish apparently due to disease 4 years ago. The whole experience was very poor so a word of caution for anyone intending to fish there next season please make sure you get full details.

I am a long time return fisherman to the Kola river and have had some truly great fishing on that river, but with the changes made this season it is really not worth going. All the kola river regulars like myself were very disappointed this year with the changes.

Every year you can expect a fairly busy river which is normal, but this year was truly chaotic.

It's a shame to see a river with such potential descend in chaos through greed.
