I was hoping members would share their thoughts on the best places to sell truly rare and collectible tackle. I just can't help thinking that there is a better place, from a seller's perspective, than the big online auction site. Any recommendations for specific auction houses or sites would be greatly appreciated as time is of the essence for the seller.

A suggestion...

If you truly have "rare and collectible," I would strongly suggest Mr. Hoagy Carmicahel. Otherwise you might want to hadle it yourself on the large auction site. Good luck.

All best,

Why not here on the classifieds? There are members who are on constant lookout for rare, cool, and unique tackle and have the funds to pay top dollar. You are going to pay fees selling via auction and it will take longer.

I've personally never purchased tackle through an auction house, would never look at an auction house for tackle, and absolutely despise EBay.

Then again, it is insulting that you think no one here would be interested or have the funds to purchase your stuff, so it may get ignored anyway, unless it is especially special. Also, you are tacking up space on the classifieds with this post and are bumping down actual classified posts that containstuff for sale , which is a douche move.
Or maybe , just maybe , the o.p has been lurking here for a long time , and has seen the crap new members sometimes get flung at them for trying to sell something before having x amount of posts .

Collectors who truly appreciate the value of rare tackle, and are on the hunt, with $$$ will be regularly checking out all possible sources for such tackle.

Those sources include here, and other relevant & similar fora, local & international auction houses, and the big auction sites etc.

If time, and the widest possible audience is important, then there is no substitute for the 'bay.

If time is not a factor, then fora are better, and specialist auction houses next in line (due to significant auction house fees etc) - specialist auction houses only have periodic relevant auction dates, and one might have to wait 3 to 6 months before items can be placed as such.

If you know the value(s)/price your are looking for, then here & other fora could also be the answer, as fora are specifically NOT an auction mechanism.

Americas only live auction for classic angling is held in NJ twice a year.

It certainly wasn't my attention to offend anyone. As BThomas pointed out, I did think members would have reservations about buying expensive items from a someone without a significant history. I know I find it difficult to buy an expensive item from a seller on Ebay who has minimal feedback, even with the protections offered to buyers by Ebay. Also, apparently incorrectly, I assumed that the majority of the transactions here were for fishing grade, as opposed to collectible, items.
