Just wonderin if anyone knows what kind of line fits best and how much backing the reel can take? I was hoping to use my 8/9 mid spey and fit as much gel spun 35lb backing as it could take. thanks

First of all, I'd choose 50lb GSP since it is a lot safer to use as backing. You would probably get about 100yds of #50lb GSP with the 9/10 mid-spey. I've discussed with Bob Corsetti, the Peerless reelmaker, about coming out with a larger version of his salmon reel specifically for speyfishing. I think it might actually happen some time in 2006.

There is a model 4a spey that will hold tons of backing and just about any spey line you care to put on it. Right now mine sits with 250yrds of 30lb dacron and a 11/12 carron longbelly line. What I want is one size smaller for the 8/9 rods, something in the 4" range.
