Rogue river

I have had the best success on the Rogue fishing very drab flies. Pattern isn't too important, I generally fish black, brown or olive flies with just a little flash if any, and for me it's always gold or copper. One of those colors combined with orange would be my bright fly.
I'm sure there are many different opinions here though.
Whatever you tie, just fish it with confidence!

What Nate said.

I like dark flies on dark days or in the shadows, and Brite flies for bright days. I like to weight my flies just a tad (unless I'm skating) as it seems to make them swing better. Just fish with a down and across cover the fishy stuff and you'll do great.
The thing is the choice of fly size; on over cast days (and we don't get a lot of them around here) or early/very late in the day maybe a #6 hook. As things brighten up drop down to a #10. Have fished with as small as a #12 but end game was just not enough 'steel' there to keep a firm hook-up.

Tou Velle park is great 'learning water' as you have just about every combo you will experience any place else on the top 60'ish miles of the Rogue. I'll PM you another 'best kept secret.'

Rogue flies

Dennis Lee will be there tying & selling his flies. Just ask him to pick out a dozen flies for you. He will include a nice box to carry them in.

I will look at your link
I'd just like to come with a few of my own
See if that doesn't make the experience that much
more enjoyable
Keep the idea coming
I still have 32 days of tying space

Flies!

~Small-ish Sculpin patterns for mid-day or sink tips. Rowell's Sticky Sculpin is a good one on the Rogue.
~Anderson's Euphoria Brown is a great Steelhead pattern on any river.
~Steelhead Coachman like John Hazel ties it and like Mark Bachman ties it.
~Small Alvin patterns are deadly on that river. Rick Anderson from Fly Fishing Specialties has a new pattern...Give him a shout...really good!
~Berry' Peacock and Purple is a good fly down there and I like fishing my M.I.L.F. I actually came up with that pattern years ago while staying down in Medford for a couple of summers.

Well known classics always do pretty well also.

Silver Hilton
Green Butt Skunk
Copper Top
Rogue Red Ant (one of my favorites)
Royal Trude/Coachman
Muddler (can never go wrong with this one)

I agree with Fred also, in that there aren't too many reasons to go larger than a #6 during the Summer run. The water clarity should be fine and low. Great conditions!

Also, we should be seeing a number of salmon in the water so you might want to be a little careful of them. But it will be a great time of year to watch them roll out of the water to look around.

You'll have a blast!!
