Hi guys,

Does anyone know where I could find an online source for the Salar double hooks in North America ?

Did a quick search but most of my findings were situated in Europe.

Cheers,

MM.

I had a similar search in vain last year and have ended up buying online from Sportfish in the UK because I couldn't get what I needed in NA (I was looking for gold Salar double tube hooks).
Our currency has taken a bit of hit lately so cost will be up slightly, but Sportfish delivered quickly and without hassles via the mail for me multiple times. I live in Ontario.
All that said, there had been noise about Partridge discontinuing at least some parts of the Salar line (not sure how true) so if you like them, grab'em while you can.

Partidge have ceased production of the Salar Range & have launched the Patriot range in their place.

I haven't tried the new range yet [I stock piled the Salars when they were being sold off] but from what I hear apparantly the Patriots are good.

I stockpiled a whole bunch of the Salar tube hooks as well, although Sportfish seems to still have some of them in stock. The Patriot hook has a completely different shape than the Salar - don't know if it performs better or worse, Atlantic salmon runs were so bad this year that I couldn't hook enough fish to compare the two hooks.

Flymart...

Contact flymart.ca, an online shop in Massey, Ontario. The site shows a selection of different double hooks, including the discontinued Salars. Scott Curry is the owner, and I have had lots of help and good service from him. With regard to Salar vs Patriot, I have a jpeg photo from Michael McMenamin, the owner of AM Angling Consultancy in Northern Ireland that shows the comparison of a Salar size 9 double to a Patriot size 8 double. I can't capture it for the Pages, but I could forward it you in an e-mail. Cheers, Buff.

I may be one of the few in the US with a goodly supply.

When I heard that Partridge of Redditch was going to stop building these hooks I jumped in with both feet and purchased a bunch out of the UK. Actually bought them directly from Partridge, even the UK shops couldn't get their hands on the things.

Bummer as these are the best 'double hooks' ( singles were no slouch either, but out of them) I've ever tied/fished. Fish touches the thing and you've got him. A hook set is just the follow up, he's already hooked himself. Hooks were actually designed by Mikael Frodin (Norway?) and he nailed it.:smokin:

That said, and my guess as to why they went out of production was they were damned expensive! Like $1.80 per hook!! Never a better hook made by anyone, but at that price these were 'just the hook you wanted and no substitute was acceptable.':lildevl:

Still have several packets on my tie desk size 3 to 7.:smokin: The hook sizing is 'Brit' so not sure what that would equate to the US number(s).

Martin, glad you found the hooks . You're right, Flymart is a class act !!Had you tried Trois Rivieres or Rimouski ? Last time I checked they both had some .
Fred , the reason they are no longer being produced was due to a "falling out " between Partridge and Mikael Frödin .

Scott is a great guy. Every time we drive up to the Soo we drop into his place. He's got a nice shop set-up.

He usually is at the Grand River Spey Clave so that's food for thought for anybody looking to save on shipping.
