I was out for a walk early this morning, and found one of those old, flat springy curb feelers on the street. You know, the flat pieces of spring steel that were attached to the front fenders of cars to let you know that you should have pulled away before your hubcap got scraped up!

Anyway, I'm walking along, bending this thing, marveling at the resilience and strength of this little piece of steel, and then thinking 'I wonder if a person could bend a small piece of this, and slip it behind the spring in an old Uniqua, or similar reel to strengthen the drag, similar to an overload spring on a truck?' It's about the right size. I seem to remember reading from a few forumites that they'd like to strengthen the drags on their reels, and thinking this could be an easy fix!

I just may have to give that a try. Not that I'm particularly worried about my reels being too weak - it's just the way my mind works sometimes. :wink2:
