Well today was a beautiful day in the Spey valley today the sun shone and the wind was a gentle downstream breeze. The river was running at a clear 2ft or so above summer level.

The place was awash with well-mended kelts, which had had all winter to forget what salmon flies looked like. Fresh fish were scarcer with only one was taken at Arndilly.

I had five kelts all in lovely condition so they might make the dash past the seals waiting at Speymouth. It was very pleasant to get out in the fresh air with a fishing rod in hand with the added excitement of a fish and you never know one might have been fresh.

Thank you Malcom, and I hope we can hasten each winter with such a report from the Spey. Thoughts of salmon fishing on your home river will keep me smiling despite a very challenging winter indeed.

Cheers,
Juro
