A "spey" version of the venerable Drain's 20 which is one of four flies my son's bride-to-be chose for boutonnières. Still to come - a Bronze Brad's Brat, a Pumpkin Spey, and Dingle-Down's Lunch Break Special.

More soon!

Thanks

Wedding Flies - Last of the Bunch

My take on Dingle Down's Lunch Break Special... Brianne (now my Daughter-in-Law) picked this fly for me to wear...

Altogether, a great celebration on the beach along Lynn Canal... even the no-see-ums were not too bad. Caribou tacos, smoked King Salmon and poached Sockeye were the main fare - all contributed by the participants.

I gotta say tho', once was enough... four mile hike in and out and the only vehicles allowed were bikes (if you had one) and the camp's single ATV which was dedicated to moving food, booze and other wedding necessities. I made 6 round trips to the camp on foot, usually with a load on my back so I lost 5 pounds despite all of the carbs.

Since the wedding was the focus not much time was spent on the water... first day I was there I managed 8 takes and landed 3 ocean bright silvers. Two are being smoked now and will be in my larder in about a week. The rest of the fishing was limited to quickie trips when the schedule allowed so no real concerted effort... oh, and the Groom and I agreed that it would be poor form to take our gear to the camp for any fishing during "Wedding Time" (this despite the very tempting estuary that was Right There and known to produce... another time.)

Happy Times...

My Son's Fly...

Thanks for all the great comments... truly, "a good time was had by all"!

Bill, my son (the Groom) is wearing a spey version of the "Drain's 20" (shown above)...

Interestingly, the Moms decided the best way for us to wear the flies was to actually sew them to our lapels... it worked great and the patterns stayed intact. Women... so (sew) practical!

Thanks again...
