Hello team Spey

Great site.

Could you please help me, I have a SAGE VXP 12'6" 6wt rod. Could some one tell me exactly what reel I need. I was thinking Sage to match the rod, does it need to be 7,8,9 or 10 weight.

Suggestions please, thanks

First! Welcome to the Board.

Size of reels is a coin flip as it really depends on what line you're going to put on the darned thing. A full floater will need a big reel, things eat up space! A 'head system' you can go a tad smaller.

But get a BIG REEL with a 10-11 designation for spey's.

you want to find the biggest reel you can that weighs around 225 to 250 grams to balance that rod. Its all about the weight needed to counterbalance the length. I personally find a slightly heavy reel helps me cast more comfortably all day.
