I have a SteelheadFinder 45 (full floater) that is 8/9 (630 grains). I was using it on an older 14 foot 8/9 rod and it felt heavy. Simon H at Nextcast recommended cutting it back a foot or so at a time, from the back, until it dials the weight perfectly to a rod. I've offered it to another guy on the forum, but if they turn it down, I'd be happy to sell it to you to try out with your 14 footer.
I’ve been fishing a SF45 7 wt with 15’ 8 Rio weight tips on a 13’ Meiser HC 7/8 and love it. My only complaint was it is a bit shorter than I prefer. I recently switched to the 8/9 (Euro rated) Salar Finder with the same tips. Great combo.
I will be spending two days this weekend trying both on a new 13’ 7/8 MKX Meiser.
