IMG_0745-01.jpeg One of the latest rods off of my bench ....... she's a Winter Run 11' 9" for a 7/8. The Winter Run is a Parabolic taper wrapped in Tangerine Belding Corticelli silk that turns a beautiful orange. Tipped Java Brown with a Black Walnut reels seat insert. This rod just throws some line .........

Nice but more pictures with some close ups of the dressings would be nicer :)

Beautiful rod! I’m fairly new to spey rods, so I gotta ask...what’s the purpose of the extra long bottom grip?

Nice rod, was it from an established taper or one of your own. Parabolic meaning bending into the handle?

Thanks,

MHC ...... I'm sorry, I forgot to add that also. Parabolic is a design term, that in it's most simple form describes a rod that has a strong tip and mid, with a softer butt section. This creates a load deeper into the butt and a "sling shot effect" feel to the cast. This would be different than a progressive taper that builds throughout the taper. Hope that answers ....

I have heard of 'Parabolic' used by rod-makers, which can lead to much discussion as to it's actual meaning. Seems that it is less to do with design theory, more of a figure of speech, describing rods which have a stiff lower tip and mid section plus deeper flexing lower section as mentioned.
