Hello Folks,
Just a quick note to introduce myself, and hopefully connect with a rod I'd like to find.

Just joined this forum a few days ago, and have been trying to spey cast for quite a few years now, not totally terrible, but far from excellent :chuckle: !!!! I live on the East Coast (NY. / CT. line) and primarily trout fish, with the occasional trip to Gaspe or New Brunswick, where I cut my teeth on spey casting.

What I'm looking :Eyecrazy: for now is a Nymphing / Streamer Switch rod, preferrably in an 11ft. 4 or 5 weight, or close to that, for a couple hundred dollars. Anybody got one laying around, or know of any great deals to find?

Go ask Torrey at HRO to show you the switch rods they have. He can help you out and let you test cast a few. Tell him Regan sent you.

I've got a custom Beulah, 10.5 foot, 4/5 switch for $325. It has custom cork, upgraded guides and reel seat. Made custom at their shop about 18 months ago before they started offering the 4/5 weight.

I was jockying back and forth between Beulah and TFO Deer Creek. Do you have any pics showing these customs, sounds really sweet. Gotta ask though, -- how about tube and sock and warranty?

But, if it were me, I'd go at least a five weight and more like a 6 for streamers with any beef to them... A true nymphing rod and streamer rod are kinda two different animals...

like the avatar I appreciate the advice, and understand the difference, my fault for not clarifying, this is going to be primarily a trout rod, size 12 nymphs, and biggest size 6 wooleybuggers.

Haven't look at any Echo rods yet, let me check them out, and I'll get back to you, thanks for replying to this post.

Come back after taking the test drive at HRO. Then you'll know what you're after.

I'm a newbie and was told don't start with a switch. I think that was sound advice. Timing is everything and you don't need to make it harder than it needs to be. With the switches your timing needs to be much more exact.

Maybe see if you can give the DECHO 4 wt a run. heard good thing about that for soft hackles to trout. Its 11'9" and a true two-hander. I don't have any experience personally with the rod, but would imagine if you're not chucking articulated leeches that your standard east coast streamers would be ok on it. I've been told that in a pinch you can overhead it, but its certainly not a 4/5 beulah.

See if HRO has the new TFO DC switches also. They sound like they'd fit the bill as well.
