I have some problems with my Skagit cast in terms of the loop formation. Instead of a single loop, my cast some how has a "double loop" as shown in this photo :

It is only rarely that I can achieve a clean single loop like this, and even so, its looks like there is a tendency for the line to form a 2nd loop :

What might be the problem? I am quite conscious to maintain a smooth and even casting stroke and try not to over-power the rod to minimise tip bounce. Can any-one advise what might be the main case of this problem? I am quite sure that this is robbing my cast on distance, accuracy and presentation. Any advise, comments and critique will be much appreciated.

I know I should arrange a few sessions with an instructor, but unfortunately, the closest Spey instructor is 20 hours flight away from where I live...

Here are some video footages on my casting stroke for your reference :

Hard for me to see your line. Cast and distance look fine to me. Most of your "close-up" casts are cack-handed and distance appears to be fine on those too. Maybe others with better eyes can see issues I'm missing?

All the best, Frank

As I understand it from a recent conversation with a way better caster than myself, it has to do with the speed and mass of the line being influenced by the acceleration of the bending around the loop at the point of the cast- like playing crack the whip. It shouldn't be worried about, as it is the byproduct of throwing a tight, fast loop.

For what it's worth, the first time I can remember seeing it was in a picture of Dec Hogan throwing a missile launch across a big wester river. So if Mr Hogan is OK with it, I am too.

All that said, I've been getting it mostly with a Rage head, and think I'll try a 15 ft poly as opposed to the 10 ft I've been using, and see if the longer tip might ad enough drag to smooth it out.
