CNC or hand machined?

I note that your tolerances are in the microns - not just beautiful but very well made. So, did you hand machine the reel, or do you have a CNC machine? Some things, like the knurling, look obviously hand done. Is that center pillar brass or bronze.

Spey Perfect reel

Hi,All no CNC here all totally hand built, apart from small screws which are still modified and the stainless ball bearings.
The single rim knurls are what i think sets it up and to answer your question, the centre bush is hard naval brass ,,bearing holder and bush turned from one piece, and bearings then hand spun in.
The reel frame/plate and spool are T grade aircraft grade alloy so will hold the finish well and is very strong, tap it with a pencil and it will ring like a bell .The adjuster wheel and centre screw are nickel silver.
Hope this covers every thing.

Machine Shop

I grew up in my father's machine shop.I watched as men made parts and pieces for everything under the sun.It was a rare thing when they got to make anything from start to finish.I remember how happy they were when this occurred.Thank you for sharing it.I have had some pleasant memories.

The mark is set high and is something aspiring reel makers should pay close attention to. Thanks for posting the pics. As someone who spent several years standing behind a lathe some 30 plus years ago, I have a real appreciation for the level of skill and mastery being demonstrated here.

Skeena Trip

Just got back from BC and had a fantastic trip, stayed with my good friend Bob Clay (River Watchrods) and we talked rods and reels and caught a few nice steelhead.Another god friend of mine i fished with was Marty Karsetter i must say on trying there hollow built spliced bamboo rods they are some of the nicest i have ever seen built, these guys are 2 of the best.
Also met up with April V and had a good chat it was 2 years since we last met up in NORWAY,she is a great fisher and fly tyier and a joy to be on the river with.
Managed to try that little 3" wide out but no fish that morning then the rivers got big so used my Vlads Ti reels and as usual it was a pleasure to use especially as i put it on a TCX 7wt so with those big fresh fish i had some real good hot action.
Met a lot of old and new friends so all in all a fantastic trip
Nice chrome Doe ready to slide back into the water.
