Recently I visited Kola Peninsula's Sidorovka river as part of the group of 6 fly fishermen from Ukraine and Russia.
In the end of the season salmon fishing was tough: very low water, mostly cold weather, and fish wasn't active. But beside that, everybody caught the salmon. 3 men in a group caught their first salmon in a life in that trip. Also, there was some decent brown trout in the river.
We lived in remote camp, managed by Sportfish company. It's reacheable only by helicopter. The camp surrounded by open tundra space and tough rocky terrain along the river, no human settlements nearby. Plenty of wild animals live in tundra, including reindeers, bears, wolverines.
Unfortunately, our tube with rods were lost in airport, so I and my friend used borrowed equipment. We got the tube on the way back in Murmansk.
The river is comfortable for SH rod during low water season. So, DH equipment was not even touched. Some friends used 11' 6/7 class switch rods with success.
Flies which were productive:
Golden Killer, Green Butt, Undertaker, Sunray Shadow, all hairwing tied in low-water style with sparse dressing on single hooks No. 3 - 7, or small double hooks No. 6 - 10
I also had hookups on featherwing Logie and Green Highlander on small doubles, but no fish landed
