Spey Gathering @ 9:00 AM on Saturday, the 10th of November, 2007, on the Muskegon river at Henning Park in Newaygo, Michigan.

This will be an opportunity to learn from some of the best that Guideline has to offer.

Toni Karuvaara from Guideline Sweden will be demonstrating Underhand Casting and using Spey casts with a single hander and shooting heads.

Jack Cook, representing Guideline North America, will be explaining and demonstrating Guideline products from a West Coast perspective. This will be more of a fishing than a casting demo.

Peter Humphreys, Guideline Pro Staff, FFF THCI/CI, will present a basic spey casting demo, covering fine tuning your casting skills (anchor, D-loop, and applying the 180 degree rule).

Neil Houlding FFF THCI/CI, G. Loomis Pro Staff, will be available to assess your spey outfit and will freely give advice on your rod/reel/line combination and your technique or lack thereof.

Peter Charles, Guideline Pro Staff, will be giving a talk with handouts on fly presentation using shooting heads and full sinking lines.

Ari Leiman from Finland will be demonstrating tying tube and pike flies.

If time allows later in the day, Peter Humphreys and Neil will give a demonstration of fishing and casting from a boat.

If there is the interest we will have an Early Bird spey casting demo on late Friday afternoon at the above location.

Although this is a showcase primarily for Guideline products and staff, this is a free event and any and all brands and manufacturers are more than welcome. Contact Woodlander through this forum for further info.

Spey casting can be injurious to your health, so wear glasses and a hat. Get in and out of the water carefully and wade safely. Please use fluffies or cut off the hook point from your fly.

Doug mentioned this evening that he'd like to put an "early bird" session together for Friday afternoon and asked for volunteers. I never learned not to volunteer in the army, so I'm up for doing a session on assembling comprehensive systems where all of the components work well together. The idea is to determine what sort of presentation is desired, then work backwards from that to ensure that all components work together to produce that presentation. I'll be using my shooting head, leader and fly system as an example of a comprehensive system, but the concept can be applied to any type of fishing rig.

Nice try, you're already on the hook for Friday, and Saturday is looking to be mandatory as well.
Besides, you make enough money...

I will be holding Rambo's hand on Friday and Saturday.

Hi Fellas,

Really looking forward to seeing everyone! I have heard rumors of a few Steelhead being caught behind the spawning salmon and the river is rising as I write this, so hopefully we should have some good fishing available for the Friday and Sunday.

I'm excited for Toni's casting demo. He is awesome with a scandi set up.:Eyecrazy:

We will have loads of gear available for people to try.

C U soon!

Pete.

Guideline power team.

Open Invitation......

Sorry for not posting this sooner to give everyone more time to plan, but it's been a hectic year and I wasn't sure I would be able to host a gathering "meeting place" until now.

This is an open invitation to anyone that needs a place to stay......Hang out....Tie flys.....Fish....Tell stories(ALL TRUE of course!!)....Pass out......Get sober.....Whatever.

I'll be opening my home on the Muskegon River here near Newaygo to the Henning gathering people.I'll welcome visitors from Friday afternoon thru the weekend until Monday noon or so.Stay an hour,a day,or all weekend.Whatever works for your schedule.
I've hosted about 4-5 of these events here and every one was a blast!!I've met many great people, made friends and learned so much about everything Spey through these events it is amazing.

You are welcome to stay at my place for free.I have a full kitchen, plenty of bathrooms, and lots of space for all to stay here,or stop by for a visit.

If you plan to sleep here,please bring a sleeping bag and a pillow.I can't promise a bed so bring a cot,bedroll,air mattress,or whatever.The floor works too if you don't mind a sore back:eek: .

Bring your own food----we usually get some sort of meal plan together, but I don't plan them....I just host the people.

Bring your own towels and personals.I have a washer and dryer if you fall in the river enough times to run out of clothes.....or if your "lucky shirt" smells bad enough to force me to make you stand outside and watch the fun through the window:hihi: :hihi: .

NO AXE MURDERERS PLEASE!!!!!!! I haven't had a bad experience opening my home up to fisherman yet,but I feel obligated to other visitors safety to ban all serial killers and mass murderers from stopping by.:chuckle:

To the planners of the gathering:I don't want to interupt any plans, but you may plan on coming by for a drink, campfire, tying demos.....whatever.

:D Jamey McLoud has once again agreed to be the organizer/planner of this,so contact him with any questions,directions.....concerns......and thank jamey for all his hard work!

I again apoligize for the short notice on this........I hope to see all former attendees here and meet many more new friends.

Hoping for a GREAT turnout.........

OK,

I would take him up on this offer (I plan to). He is serious about it being open to all. The house is easy to find, very spacious, AND ON THE WATER for people that aren't familiar with the river, and don't have a boat this is a big plus. If anybody needs directions PM me, I'll also give out me cell if you get lost on the way. Every time I have stayed there it has been a riot.

P.S.

The owner of the house likes top shelf Vodka, hint, hint.

The planner/organizer likes good Scotch and IPA :hihi:

I called last night dude, left my cell#.
