Was fishing a newly scouted deep run in the way lower Muskegon this evening. Dredging a 24ft 300grain on a MS 10/11 body(not pretty, but does the trick) , 5ft or so of slack line on the water. Next thing I know the slack line is burning my fingers and I have a fish on the reel and ripping the drag. First time in my life I heard a Marquis screaming with a fresh fish on the other end. Even got the attention of some kids smoking something at the launch 80 yards behind me. Got me 30ft or so into the backing and I broke it off, as there is no way to chase a fish very far from where I was. Local conditions would put it as being an early king, but I never saw it.
Looking forward to hearing that sound many many more times.
