Hey Guys,
I'm moving to Bend Oregon this summer! I am no stranger to the Area as I usually make sever trips up there each year to see my fiance's family. I did a lot of trout fishing before I got into steelhead fishing and swinging flies, so I am only familiar with a few river. I've floated the Deschutes a couple times, and the Sandy once the past two years, and I've also fished the North Umpqua a few times.
I'm planning on making a NU trip in June and in July. And then I'm changing gears to the Deschutes for August - November( ish). Then I want to go after the Sandy and maybe the clack in late January (ish) -April ( ish) or some coastal systems.
I have a 2 man Creek Company ODC 12ft for floating. It would be great to have another angler along with a shuttle vehicle.

If anyone wants to get together and do some fishing or some tying & beer drinking let me know!

I'm in! I live right in between both the sandy and the clack and fish them year round. Like you I'll be on the NU at the end of June and all over the deschutes from now all the way through november. So ya I'm totally in for some fishing!

Let me know when you get to town, I'd be more than happy to help you shuttle for a float or two down a river to swing for steel. The rivers and time frame you're talking about mesh pretty well with my summer plans. Should be an interesting year with such low flows, but I'm sure some aggressive fish will be around.

Sounds good guys! I'll send you guys a PM as I get closer to a hard move date. I am currently trying to plan a NU trip for 6/12&6/13 or 6/23&6/24. IMO its always best go earliest in the season, because if nothing else it will be a great scouting session. Plus I have never gone steel heading fishing and not learned something on or about the river. The more times I go the more likely I'll get one up top!

Hi, I will be on the N Ump and Rogue beginning approx Sept 1 for a month or two and am willing to travel to other parts of OR for a couple to several days of fishing. Would love to hook up with you and swing for steels and trouts.

Hey Mark,
I've got a few buddies who really like to fish the rouge in September. I'll let you know if I make it down that way, but I'll likely be sticking around the deschutes a lot in september because it will be a bit closer to me than the rouge.

BTW All: I have confirmed that I will be on the NU the 27th & 28th if anyone is interested in meeting up. I'll be with a buddy, and we'd like to get a fishing / spotting rotation going ( 2 anglers fishing, one angler spotting rotating every run)

JB, yes, we will make it happen this year. Especially since you now have a steelhead river right in your neighborhood. NU wouldn't be a bad choice either.

Rmacneil, I think you'll find a fish or two by that time. Not too many fish up early, but those that are can be aggressive, and if you hook one they rip.

Shoog, I grew up in Wisconsin and Minnesota. A month or two on the NU and Rogue in fall was a fantasy when I was living there and the NU was one of the reasons I moved out here. You're living the dream my friend. Should I look for a car with midwest plates parked along the river when I'm driving from spot to spot?

That's the game plan! And honestly if I come up goose eggs that's OK, every time I go out with the two hander I learn something new: eaither about the rod, river, fish, flies or something about myself. Fish would honestly be a bonus.

Plus I lost a winter fish there in March. Fish absolutely smashed my fly and it was the hardest take I've had to date.... Came unpinned after a running jumping run where I watched the fly leave its mouth during a nasty mid air head shake.

To this day I get goosebumps thinking about it.... Like right now.... And that fish just haunts the crap out of me. I'll fish that river as many times as it takes.....

Yes, those are the fish you always remember. I can vividly remember two early July NU fish that hit like freight trains, ripped into my backing in seconds, and threw the hooks as they cartwheeled down the rapids below me. Totally unlandable devilfish. I remember very little of the two fish I landed later each morning from the same runs, fish that fought pretty well, but never threatened to leave the pool. Those unlandables always leave me shaking, laughing out loud to mysef, and wanting more.

Peteo-

I love your vivid description of those early July fish and couldn't agree more. Cartwheeling, bada$# machines if you're lucky enough to run into one.

Rmac-

I'd love to do a float sometime. I just picked up a 10' cataraft and will be looking for a partner to float with. Send me a PM if interested.
