I have an Loomis Metolius 5/6 and have been happy fishing shorter heads with it. I have searched here about longer tapers for this rod but I almost always come across lines that are no longer made.

I really want to pick up a longer head for purely floating line work (maybe light sinking leaders). Is anyone fishing this rod with the Nextcast FF heads (preferably the 45 or 55) or other longer floating heads and which ones.

Hadn't steelhead fished in a couple years and a recent 2 day stint has me thinking about better dry line options for this rod.

Ballistic Vector lines go down into light weights, 4/5 and 5/6 in the standard lines, and down to 5/6 in the XL. And they run light compared to NextCast lines of the same ratings. This is what I've been fishing on my 5-wts. The NextCast FF 45 and 55 5/6 are better on a true 6 in my experience. But I don't have experience with your particular rod.

I'm with troutless on this. Give Lee a call. 208.572.0141 - i have yet to have a Vector let me down on any given rod. Recently put a 5/6 xl on my 5126 One and it completely changed how i view this little stick. I run one on a deep soulfull CND as well and its like magic. Fast rod slow rod... The Vector is just designed to flat out cast. Superb turnover. The standard Ballistic is also a great bridge for anyone wanting to move on up to longer bellied lines.

my nextcast 45 5/6 i use on a 7/8 weight rod. i think they all match up this way. this is not just my opinion, look at the grain window chart on the burkheimer website.

What heads have worked well for you on the Loomis?

I agree with above posters re the Vector. After a lengthy fruitless search for a 4/5 GPS to fit CND 12'2" the 4/5 Vector is a very nice line.. 350 grains - 41'

a 400 skagit seems like a good fit. just unsure if grain weight goes up for the longer heads or you try to match it to a scandi size grain weight.

will definitely look at the vector lines. in my searching i just seemed to have missed them. i think the 4/5 may work well since i remember comparisons between the metolius and the cnd seemed to have them in a similar grain range.

of course, if anyone has actually cast the vectors on this rod... chime in even though i will be contacting lee.
