Messing with my B&W switch rod..

So I got the Bruce and Walker switch rod this spring...I was asked to try and let Gene know what I thought? After I did I told him your not getting it back..Man I loved it right off the bat!!!

I have used this rod all summer and it is amazing....it's what I called " a little rod that thought it was a big one" as it cast so well but at 11' was just a lot of fun...fishes great for so many species of fish..and while they don't like me using it in the salt...it's a cannon overhead casting so the TCX i've trying to sell never had a chance...

Even my long line big rod buddies liked it when they tried it...."that things a cannon" was a common comment...It's funny to watch guys cast it and then look down at it with that head scratching looks...Pretty cool IMHO

Now the one thing about the rod that has always bugged me and to be honest bugs me about all switch rods i've tried...is the bottom handle was never long enough..There are many different thoughts on this but I prefer a longer one..

On some switch rods..i.e. the sage method for one...that thing is so short I found IMHO it ruined one of the nicer switch's i've tried...While on the B&W it was longer then many it still bugged me a bit. I talked to Gene and said he would talk to Brian over at Bruce and Walker.....and see what they could do, if anything?

Brian said, "Sent it to me and I'll put the handle on you want.....AND it won't change the characteristic's of the rod"....which was my one major concern as I really like this rod and how it handles and cast....

I got it back today and can't say enough about how impressed i am with it....This is what I always felt should be on this rod...the balance is still perfect and I can hold it with one hand if I need to but now have the "feel" i was looking for....Once I got my first B&W the handles, especially the bottom one was one of the things that really set them apart In my mind...

Some before and after shots of it...the new bottom is like the walker series of rods...

I haven't tried that one; how does it compare to the 11'3" Powerlite Salmon & sea trout - which I have used (& is very good) ?

Regards, Tyke.
Dont start with another rod you cost me enough already lol

I don't know? I haven't tried that rod, though i have looked at it online many times....I would think they have to be very similar? the line wt. on the switch is around a 6wt wt spey ...two lines i really like are the 35' 450 nextcast..and the 420 switch chucker...

what is the 11'3 powerlite like Tyke?

It seems to be in the same sort of line rating, it is fairly through actioned like its' larger Powerlite Speycaster brothers &, whilst it's hard to tell from photographs, it looks like your new rod may be a little faster tapered - but without seeing them side by side I couldn't be certain about this.

Not to highjack but...

Are those Steal Your Face with a reel bottle openers and money clip in the third/far right pic?!
Where might another brother find those?

Oh, yeah...nice kit you have there!

Sat. was fun in the I'm out in crappy weather kind of way..

..While I consider this more a "summer" rod and those big chum worried me a tiny bit.. nothing was biting but the rain all freaking day... Don't know where the bulls went? Water clarity sucked so was using some big boy flies...

I really like the way this new handle feels on the rod and in my hands...I can't say it does anything magical, balances the same and feels good with one hand if your working your line out...though with heavier tips thats only so good so far..

What's kind of funny is i've tried a few different more classic reels but for some reason keep the abel on there...I really like it and it's a complete change of pace from my gear and pawls...just saying..

was using a switch chucker, 10' of T8 and this movement fly...amazes me how easy it is to cast and the distance i can get...such a fun rod!!
