I met a guy on the Skagit last year who was executing reach casts with his spey rod. His casts weren't that far (probably less than 70' from belly-button to fly), but the line was laying out perfectly. When the cast worked, he never had to mend after his line was on the water.

Yet, I do not recall reading anywhere in the spey literature about executing reach casts with a spey rod. Why?
