Hi there. I'm in the process of purchasing a reasonably early Pfleuger Medalist 1498. I can't seem to find any solid specs on this model. I'm most interested in the weight of this 4" reel. It's for a 10' cane rod that needs a fairly heavy reel for balance purposes.
I'm hoping someone on here has some experience with this model and its weight or lack thereof.

Thanks for the reply. I visit FAOL frequently and have seen this piece. It gives some good information but doesn't mention weight specs. However, I did narrow down the reel as being a late 50s model.

the ones I have both weigh 7.40 ozs.

My 1498 weighs 8.30 ounces with some backing. With a bare 1598 spool, it weighs 9.62 ounces.

I use a 1598 on a 10' 6" bamboo switch rod. Works great for me. I can't say I have ever given any thought to the ballance so it must be OK.
