I find it is difficult to find any useful information on this river. Can anyone lead me in the right direction or provide current information ? Thanks in advance.

Heading up on 10/1

for a week on the river. As mentioned above it is best to call if you have a connection. I don't often find up to date info on the web sites.

Reely not sure what information your looking for location, lodging, conditions but if its condition it is presently extremely low worst water conditions in September in a long time but that should change this weekend if the forecast holds, calling for 20mm on Saturday and 40 mm on Sunday which would make next week ideal and that is when Mike{GR8Lakes Flyer}is landing in Maragaree for a week

Many noteable Margaree pools have literally stopped due to the lack of water in the river. It was around .40 to .45 when i was up for 9 days in July. It's now even lower at .34:(
You can check her levels here

Meeting Mike and JStroke at the camp in the morning. We have 9 days to fish and just praying we get that shot of water as otherwise the river isn't worth fishing in its present state. It'll will be a lot of racing around NS trying to find water if the rain doesn't make the valley.
Good luck if you go,,, but pray like hell for some water!
As for Mac Strathdee? Mac didn't look well when he closed the shop and hasn't been in the valley for years now. The house the old shop was in is a ruin. Bring what you need as the small shop in Forks usually closes up around this time of year,,,and there isn't much in there to begin with.
might bump into a few of you if your up.

Margaree

Salmon Chaser thanks for the water level link for the Margaree, it seems to be up a bit. How was your recent trip to the valley? If anyone else has knowledge of current conditions please let me know.

Cheers, Bill G

Margaree Trip

I arrived on 10/2 to low water conditions with some very dark salmon showing, and not many taking. Most all fishing was being done down river due to low water.
On Wednesday, the storm blew in with force. By Thursday morning the river was very high, and muddy with rain still coming. Based on my knowledege of what would make the river fishable, I left Tursday morning for N.H.. I was scheduled to leave Sunday morning, and would not have had a fishing opportunity much before that.
I sure would like to be there about now. I would expect some fresh fish to have come in with the water.
No salmon this year, but did c&r a great brookie of magnificent color. Best of all I got to spey cast for a few days.
Looking forward to next year already.

I just got back a few hours ago from the Margaree , we must have missed each other :(
Thursday was a down day for us . Did a little fishing in the morning , then off to the salmon museum to awe at all the wonderful lore of the Margaree , fishing legends and it's salmon ..... what a beautiful place to be !!! Friday our posse pinned 13 salmon at the Cemetery Hole .... it didn't take long for the word to spread that four guys pinned 13 salmon :chuckle::chuckle: We managed another few the next day there as well , but it seemed the entire fishing population was in the rotation :hihi:

Here's a pretty hen the Margaree let me play with . My friend Jeff just arrived in time to tail her for me .... great timing Jeff !!! Man she was a HOT little number !!! She gave me 6 jumps and three screaming runs before coming to hand . What she lacked in size , she made up for in attitude !!!

More pics will follow !!

Yesterday was one of those dangerous days on the river where the river came up 2"-3" without any warning due to snow melt in the highlands. Nic and i found tough dangerous wading where it was fine the evening before and we were unaware of the raise till we hit the river Sunday morning. Many crossed but could not get back, as the river rose in the morning, and had to walk up river to the next bridge and back down the other side to their vehicles. Sadly,, as of tonight there is an unconfirmed report of an angler found at Snag Pool. Yes,,, Sunday was a dangerous day to wade!!!
Reelstory....you should have stayed as friday saturday and sunday was some of the best salmon angling i've ever seen up there!!!!

Man, that's a terrible bit of news to hear especially after spending the last 9 days on that same water. My prayers go out to that man and his family. Also wan't to thank three of the most glorious bastards I've had the pleasure of fishing with, thanks boys for putting a couple of townies into some great fish. Already got the ok from the boss for next year, so now I just have get to the local shop and get some rabbit before the bunny master beats me to it. Tight lines boys!!

It was a sneaky raise Jim. No rain,,, clear warm night.....but lots of snow in the highlands.
It started to raise early in the am and guys could cross,,, but couldn't get back on the same route as it climbed higher. You met Brett and Matt and Philip on Friday night. Philip tried to cross at Cemetery and was swept in,,,face first and was a lucky bastard for sure.
They thought it had dropped,, but it came up!!!
On a personal note dude i don't know if i've ever spent 9 days with a finer gent..... and i must say i certainly had a great time with you,, both on the river,, at camp or wherever. I consider you a brother from a different mother.........as i do you Mikey!!!!!!!! It was an honour to share the Ree with you guys.....and that day at Cemetery will go down as one of the coolest days in my salmon angling career!!!
Stay in touch Jimmy Skids.... I love ya man!!!!!!
And yes,,,,,,,, You are a Magnificent Bastard!!!!!!

My heart felt condolences to the fallen angler and his family .... very sad news indeed . As beautiful a river she is , the Margaree can be a dangerous place . It would be easy to let your guard down in her magnificent glory !!

Never have I had the pleasure of spending 9 days with a better group of Glorious Bastards as yourselves :smokin: The memories of this trip will last a life time and I look forward to next fall already !!

Very cool pics my Brother !! That photo of Nic crossing the Forks is just crazy sick !!! The nights spent around the tying table sipping whiskey were just as fine as the days spent on the river !! What a trip !!!

I have it from a source in Margaree that a body was indeed found at the Snag Pool. Cause of death is not known at this time. A friend of mine is guiding the person who found the body. Very sad!

Yes, Salmon Chaser I sure did pull the plug too early. After 15 continuous trips to the river I thought I had it figured out. BUT, you can see that I do not! Hope my son will forgive me.
Always a great trip regardless, and it is always good to hear of great success regardless of who experiences it. Congrats to the winners!
I am very sorry to hear of the lost soul. It is true that the river can be very dangerous. I have experienced a few "hairy" crossings myself. When I gassed up at the Forks, the attendent told me the river would be high for some time due to the snow melt in the Highlands. Guess he was right on.
Oh, I long for my return, and hope to meet some of you folks next year. I have reservations at Cranton's starting 10/6/2012.
