I was challenged today by a man from Quebec to try and design something that would stay above the muck, ride mid to almost in the meniscus level in the column, but to maintain a low water sized fly, I basically have never tied a low water fly so this is a first attempt. A Shot at at the moon I supposed

Again , very neat tying , body work is tight for sure :)
This fly is definitely tied in low water fashion . From what I can tell , I believe this fly will sink like a stone though .
Tied sparse and with such a thin body on a large iron , not really too much holding this fly back from sinking .

Nice work !!

Gary,

That is a sexy little fly.

failtospey,

Very nice tying. However, like Mike mentioned, on such a large hook, it is going to sink like a rock. Low-water flies are typically tied on #4-#8 low-water hooks such as the Bob Ververka Classic Salmon Hook make by Daiichi when tied for fishing rather than hanging in a frame. This hook is the Daiichi #2131 and is a light wire, longer than a standard salmon iron, but shorter than the Alec Jackson Spey Hook, and it has a straight shank. The Tiempco 7989 and the Partridge Model N also work well, but they aren't as nice a hook as the Ververka hook.
