Looking For a CND 7/8 Line;

If you have one or can direct me to where I may be able to get both I would appreciate. This would be for my 15' Winston 7/8. I use a delta Long now but would like to change that to the CND line.

Thanks,

Ard

When I find one of these it will replace an Airflo Delta Long 66' size 8/9 if anyone needs one of this line mine is good as new.

Where are those CND lines.................

Correction; Delta Long 9/10 is what I have, I'll list it correctly in the classifieds. Sorry for the misquote

I wish I could help you Ard. These GPS lines are not so available these days. Atop of that - the 7/8 is like the holly grail of speylines. Hold out as long as you can because they are out there somewhere. If you are willing to compromise though - take a gander at the Rio (who made the GPS for CND) PowerSpey: Only slightly shorter, slightly lighter, with similar long back taper and casting character. Clip the 7/8 and heavier weights at 20 feet for a set of 15'CD tips to match and you will have something close to the CND.

I'm afraid the Grand Spey 8/9 will be too much line for the rod in question as is the Delta. The rod is a Winston 15' Derek Brown rated 7/8. Yeah I know it's a tad heavy but I like big robust rods.......... Anyway, the way I cast and fish I'm almost always sweeping and casting the entire head. The 8/9 lines work but I have to make it work, I have a friend who has the same rod and uses the CND 7/8 and I trust his advice on this line.

CND lines...

Ard,

Are you looking for a CND GPS line??
Call Lee Davidson at Snake River Outfitters and see what he has left.
He may just be down to the Double Tapers-which are great lines too.
Here's the phone#-208-538-7425; he's in Idaho...
That DBF will really like a Carron Jetstream or a Hardy Mach 2 plus also:smokin:.
The Nextcast lines are cool but all are configured as shooting heads now.
You might want to start watching the classifieds for any/all of these lines.
Good luck,

Tom

long belly

If you do decide to sell the 8/9 Delta long, I'd like to be the first in line. I'm leaving in a few minutes for my trailer on the Grande Ronde until Saturday, but I'll try to check emails tomorrow. PM coming in. Thanks in advance.

I meant a Nextcast Fall Favorite 70' head 7/8WF. The Nextcast Winter Authority is the same line except looped at 15 feet for 15 foot tips. They are heavy by weight class compared to the Delta Long so the 6/7 600 grains - 60 footer may work for you if not the 7/8 660.

Right, of course, and I have one of the old full lines. But the heads are nice also. Spendy for only a head though...

SRO may be the place to check - I know he had a GPS 7/8/9 DT listed.
Good luck in the search. I hope you find the CND.

Ard,

The Nextcast are great lines but run heavy. The 7/8 CND GPS weighs 594 grains and is 65'. The 7/8 Nextcast FF is 62' and 660 grains. The 6/7 is only 600 grains or near the same as the CND but is only 59'.

Thanks for all the good line info, I never paid close attention to what I bought and put on the rod originally. I was told when I bought the rod that it would be better off with a heavier line. I just dug out the original package from the Delta line I put to the rod. It is a Delta Long 9/10 so no big surprise that it seemed too heavy. I figure I need to trim about 100 grains off the line weight and the rod will be just swell.

I hope I don't come off as though I have my head up my butt :) I have an excuse for my seeming indifference to my rods and lines.......... When I started fishing 2 hand rods I bought a 13'9" Hardy Salmon Fly Graphite 1981. It took a while to get the line right on that rod, I tried 5 lines before I got it dialed in and once I had it right I use it almost exclusively. That my friends is how I can have a bunch of other rods that aren't dialed in with correct lines.

I'm trying to diversify my rod usage and I really appreciate all the input on these different lines.

Ard, I have that same rod, albeit a 2004 so Winston's commercial arrangement had just terminated with Derek Brown when I got the rod.

Recently I had it at the Speyfest on the Muskegon in MI and asked Gary Kalinka (Voodoofly on the forum) to help me line the rod. He suggested a WA line in 7/8 and then did some test casts and pronounced the 7/8 as the right Nextcast line for the rod. Gary is part of "Team Nextcast" and impressive with a long line, to say the least.

Later in the day one of the guys (who was on hand to instruct wankers like me) tried the rod with the WA-70 7/8 line and pronounced it spot on. I was hopeless with it, but that wasn't an equipment problem.:D

If you want to try the line pm me your address and I'll send it to you to try for a while.
