Curious results on the 5120. I have spent very litytle time with this rod, less than an hour at a clave back in 2003, but my results were the 5/6 WC was a nice match and the Sage line was far too light.

Bird Flu

Either it is being exposed to the partridge in my pear tree or all this talk of indicator fishing for steelhead but I'm suddenly getting quite sick to my stomach.

Grandpa,

First off, I respect everyone's right to angle in a manner that is lawful. I don't have to approve of it but as long as you don't break the law, I accept you have a right to do it.

I also have no problem what-so-ever with anyone using an indicator for trout fishing. While I think you are dead wrong in saying "if you want to catch trout in most waters, you need to know how to use an indicator", I agree it is a lot easier and more convenient than practicing and learning the art of dead drift nymphing using only your skills, your rapt attention and the movement of your floating line to indicate a take.

My indigestion flares up when people expand use of trout spey techniques to fishing for steelhead. Its legal and you have a right to do it but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Call me old fashioned but I can't help but feel steelhead are too special of a fish to be caught using a bobber.

I would love to go on but the iron is hot and my brown shirt is in need of pressing. A very Merry Christmas to you as well. ;)
