This is my first spey rod and after talking to and letting a couple of other very experienced spey casters try it out today on the East fork of the Lewis, WA, the overwhelming consensus was that the flyshop set me up with a wrong line. Do you have a recommendation for a good line to try with this rod? What they set me up with was a Rio WindCutter, Head Length 55ft. 525 Grains / 34 Grams with WF7/8/9 Tips. The rod just doesn't turn this without extreme effort, and forget about trying it with fast sinking tips.

Thanks, anyone,

Walt

I spoke with Andre Scholz spey rod advisor to RL Winston Rods and his recommendation for the Vapor 8/9wt 14ft is a line weight including the tip of 29 to 31 grams which is approx. 450 to 480 grains.
