My river closes today so I had to get out come hell or high water. Well I got both. Blowing snow and a near blown river. Didn't attract any attention but I loved every minute of it. On river right with a down stream wind that made my snake roll casts look spectacular. There are still sections of different rivers we can fish all year and they're within a few hours drive either way. Hopefully I will make it to a few.

Like Joe said, you are true GL's Hardcore Dan :smokin::smokin:
I had to break my tradition this year and not get out for that last swing of the season ... too much family stuff happening :(:(

I'm saving that photo to my library as a reminder of what I'm missing once our rivers get stiff.

I'm envious my friend ... good on you for getting out and keeping the tradition going, my hat is off to you friend :)
Maybe we'll be lucky and have some early January swing time on other rivers before they freeze.

The rod and reel was the same I posted last time. It's a 14' Anglers Roost 9/10 spun up by David Shotzko. Built in the Meister style with a Beaulite hanging from it. The line came from you Mike, a Gaelforce 63' with about 15' of leader. It's the 7/8 but the rod throws it nicely. As for the flea, it was tied by your hands. With this line and fly it was like you were there.

On a side note - do you tie your own mono leaders?
Yes and no. The one I have been using started life as a 15' salmon/steelhead tapered leader. It's been cut back and added to several times now. I will tie up fresh ones as needed if I can't get tapered.

Okay, that was cool :)

I am honored that you chose one of my flies to be your last offering of the year on your home river ... I'm stoked my friend :D:D
So glad that line is getting good use by you, it was a little light on my 16' 6/7/8 Highlander.

The rod will definitely handle more weight. It is a tad light but works well enough to reach out on a long cast. I think it's because the length is 14 rather than the 16 you had it on.

My sentiments exactly!! So cool to recognize my wraps through all that ice.

Glad you got out. Will try to make a Jan day on the Credit happen.

Happy new year!
Better make it quick. I leave in three weeks for sunshine and saltwater.
