Just got a Delta Spey multi-tip (53' head) and curious to know what folks are using off the terminal ends of the tips, particularly the sink tips.

Surprisingly, I didn't find much using the search feature.

I would have said 2 - 4.

Reason a max of 4 is (assuming you're not using a weighted fly too) is hydrolic pressure wants to force the fly to the surface. Think about what happens with just a regular line in moving water.

End of drift and it usually comes up to the surface; same thing with a long leader off a sink tip of any kind.

10 - 17' leader off the floating tip

5 - 10' leader off the hover/intermediate tip

2 - 6' leader off the sink tips

the above does depend on the seams/runs & pools you're fishing, and also the size, profile and weight of the fly

Thanks. Makes sense. I was wondering if folks were putting sinking poly leaders on the sink tips, but that seems unnecessary. I saw other threads elude to that, but it was unclear. Good thing because 20-25' of sinking tip is way beyond my limited ability!
