Had some good luck this season using herl wings. They are not very durable, but man they move great. They also give a good profile while not being bulky enabling me to sink them as deep as I like.
Here is a Lady Amherst style fly with a herl wing.

Curious, why did you choose a fragile herl versus a white, sparse white temple dog or similar hair that can be easily marked to look like silver pheasant? Your is very fishy.

Why?
Many reasons. Mostly, because it's fun to experiment.

For this fly, I wanted lots of movement. Marabou and herl have that tantalizing motion that fish seem to respond to.

I like showing them something different.

Confidence after having success.

Etc...

Hair would be a better choice for durability.
But then, I wouldn't have to tie or fish new flies!
