What would you take to your desert spey paradise. To your tigris and euphrates of spey? To your lost spey Atlantis? To your remembrance of spey's past? To the great Kentucky Fried Spey in the sky? To the land of the ddouble-handed oompah-loompah's?

But- you can only have ONE set of double-hander tackle...

Specifics, please. Imagine that you don't know anything about the river in your anadromous fantasy.

I would take a loop green line 13.x' with that nice extra tip and a Lamson Velocity V4. I would take for line a loop quattro ;) or Derek Brown Speydriver made from braided human hair (easy to repair on my double-handed desert island).

Copie

As a reformed chewer, I too would take Copenhagen with me to Spey heaven. Nothing like a big cut of stinking Cope, a spey rod, and the wind at your back carrying your rich, brown saliva far, far downstream.

I have, in my excitement of a hooked fish, swallowed my chew, much to the chagrin of my stomach.

My father used to always "give a chew" to the pan fish he caught at a local pond...h's dab a bit of Cope out of his mouth and put it in the panfish's mouth. I imagine these fish are rather happy when some dunderhead throws a can of the stuff in the pond.

Do they make a Crappie-sized nicotine patch?

Joe

1510 T&T (either the 3 piece or the 5 piece) and 8/9 GrandSpey with a reel big enough to hold the line plus 250 yds of 30# backing. It would be a bit long for small rivers and a bit short for the biggest rivers. But it could handle fish up to 35 or 40 pounds and can cast and fish all but the largest (over #2/00 flies.

What would I take to my paradise. Well its an ocean rock, facing up to deep water, it's october and the billies and sails are around and I'm on the rock with a Meiz 13x13 double hander and a Old Florida 5" Nautilus and I'm watching a billie blast a huge silver fly right there in front of me. Yep I'd take a thing like that. But if it was for everything, then a Loop 12'4", probably a greenline, with an adaptive head, sinking and I'm fishing a flat somewhere for trevally.
Aren't dreams wonderful. Well DH sticks are wonderful anyway. Max

Lucky MAx

MAx,

Yu probably don't realize how lucky you are. Or maybe you DO! I'd love to be there on the rock with you shooting big casts to big sailfish.

Cheers

Brooklyn,

My spey paradise in the desert would have a giant rod rack postitioned at each pool, so I could have my choice of Rods, Reels, Lines, and whatever else for each pass through. I am a gear junkie, so no paradise could be truly paradise with just one rod.

But to play by the rules, Gimmie my Steelhead Specialist, Bougle strung up with....well, haven't found the perfect line yet, so far the 9/10 midspey is the favorite, a 24 of PBR, hell if I am dead, gimme back my cigerates (I do dearly miss them, three years after the fact) A box full of undertakers, signal lights and purple bombers and I think I could be happy.

This gives new meaning to the term "travel rod":D

Rod=Scott 1409 A2

Feels light and small but can handle the big stuff

Reel=a large Hardy clicker

You always have spare parts and nothing can go wrong (EVERY fancy drag reel I have ever had has needed parts or maintenance eventually)

Line=Windcutter 789 with tips+a windcutter upgrade and 200,300,400 big boys

with this line I have everything from a 39' shooting head up to a mid lenght belly of 69'

Tobacco product=a fine blended pipe tobacco, a fresh bag of Drum for rolling and maybe a tin or two of snuff

This is the kit I would put together for maximum versatility and durability (including the tobacco).

Now if I were to design my utopia...Starting at the ocean and moving up stream for several miles it would resemble the broad Skeena. About 10 miles from the ocean we hit a confluence where the Dean meets the big river. Directly opposite this the Skagit dumps in and of course if you go up the Skagit aways we have the Sauk. Back down to this mighty convergence and continue up the Skeena until you hit another trib, The Thompson and it's tribs, the upper columbia rivers. All rivers of course have healthy runs of wild steelhead. We float 10 mile stretches each day and have free helicopter rides back to camp (of course camp is built at the confluence of the Skeena, Dean, Skagit and you could spend a week just fishing camp water). Would I keep this utopia to myself? No way. A day on the water with friends is what rounds it out into perfectness. (All of those dudes with attitude just because they "fly fish" can stay home) While the true students and lovers of the sport are all invited.

Let's go,

Greg

hi!
I´d take with me my Loop Blueline 13,2, Loop LW Evotec 812, full set of Loop´s Adapted heads w. tips. Only problem, I´d need two rods because of possible rod-explosion...
Loop-maniac? No, I´m not, I just want fishing to be both fun & easy AND effective.
