I have a chance to buy a really nice typesetting cabinet. since the dividers are already out it would be a great cabinet to store my hooks, with each shelf devoted to a specific brand. However the drawers have an open space approximately 1/2 inch between the facings. My fly tying room is in the basement, But it’s quite dry. I still keep all the hooks in their original containers. Has anyone ever had a problem with corrosion since the drawers were open like this cabinet?

Yes. I have had hooks made by Sealey and sold as Herters rust a tad when exposed to the air. No other brand of hook I have used in 45 years of tying has corroded due to air exposure alone. So, don't worry. Terrific find. I'm envious. What do the shelves look like?
