I am heading out to the Deschutes for a week in september. Excited about the oppurtunity to swing on a floating line and wake some dries. Wondering if anyone has advice on patterns.

Also, what size spey rod would fit the water best ?

Patterns,,,,,, Your favorite summer run flies will work. You can also check the local shops when you go.

Rod anything in the 7/8/9 will work. The CND 1308 was the rod I fished last year.

Email me your address and I will send you a couple of my favorite flies.

Shoot me a PM when you head out this way and maybe we can get out for a day on the big "d".

Regarding patterns the typical... skated fall caddis patterns, muddlers, bombers, moose turds, and wakers work well.

regarding rods the "w" can really blow on the "d" so be prepared. During the day most FFers switch to tips and the "d" flows south to north and the fish are looking straight into the sun for a period of time. Typical steelhead will be 10 lbs and below.

PM me if you would like guide recommendations
