I am interested in information on Hardy St. John reels. I have an opportunity to purchase one and would like your opinions on these reels.

Thanks,

Rich,

St' Johns are nice reels, as I recall they are all 3 7/8 narrow spools. Unless you are throwing "heads" of some type I don't think you could carry much is any backing.

I have a St John Mk II that I bought new and am currently using it with a Windcutter 5/6 on a Sage 5120. It is a good reel, never had any problems, used to use it for steelhead on a Koh-i-nor back in the 70's.

It is a classic Hardy and sounds great but don't count on the drag doing very much though
