I have a question. What would be the best fit for a 13 ft. 7/8 wt. spey rod, the Hardy Marquis Salmon 1 or the Salmon 2. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Absolutely the 2. I have both and the 1 would not balance imo. Not only that but with a 7/8 wt rod, you can get a lot more backing on the 2 if you need it.

On my 13' and 13'6" 7wt and 8wt rods,,, the Marquis Salmon 2 balances fine.

The Salmon 1 is a little light that goes on the 12'6" 5wt.

Marquis 2

I posted a similiar question a couple of months ago for a 13 foot 7 weight, and the responses pretty much all suggest a Salmon2.

I bought the Salmon 2 and its perfect, just love the reel and the sound and it feels well balanced for the rod. Plenty of room for any line on there too..

You will love the reel.

Without a doubt, what they said! I had one on a Z-7136 and it was perfect. I sold it to buy a Bougle 4, but sort of miss it. Very nice, well-functioning reel.
