This years Spey Fest will be September 24th at Henning Park, Newaygo Michigan, 9-?
All the Reps, with all the goods, Pig Roast, (no charge), great people, great times.
Presenting this year will be Kevin Feenstra...Fishing the Swung Fly. Doug Taylor...matching head length to rod length and how it affects the cast.
I believe we have a location for an "After Fest" Tying, Imbibing, party, bring you tying stuff, as many of the attendees are very talented in both Tying and imbibing!...more on this later.
I apologize for the delay in posting this, time flies when you have kids! Also, I hope to add another presentor, but have not gotten a confirmation as of yet.
More to come, and thanks for your continued support,
Bob

Will try again this year!!

I have a new Commanding Officer at the unit, things are doing great, he loves fishing, so maybe this year I will make it up there. I have been trying since I got station up here in Chicago. I have all fingers crossed, so plan to hope to meet some people!

Hey guys,

Checked in with Bob today 'cause i wasn't really planning on coming to the Clave. I want to come up in November when the steelies are in the river, and the day of the Clave is my oldest's 12 birthday. Well now, he's coming with me; this is my birthday present to him (and i guess to myself, too). He's a little nervous about meeting all of you, but i've told him how welcoming and friendly y'all are, and now he's really looking forward to it as well. He's done a little fly fishing with me but never with a two-handed rod; i'm counting on some of you to help him out. He'll certainly listen to you more than he will to his Dad. Don't think that his presence will put any kind of damper on the normal, ahem, festivities that accompany this gathering. I just want him to meet y'all and hopefully find the same kind of warm, welcoming response that i have.

kevin

PS- I'm still coming back up in November when there's fish.

Heck, Kevin, I'll bring my kid. Shes 11 -- they can compare casting styles and ruminate on the benefits of synthetics vs. naturals used in syd glasso patterns....all over a single malt (malted milk shake, that is).

Look for the girl with crawdads and firecrackers in her pocket and blue neos. thats her.

What's the skinny on the Doug Taylor Invitational spey casting competition? Any new rules since last year?

Is Heron automatically DQ'd because his hair gives him an unfair advantage? Maybe we need to find a local Delilah and see if she can make him mortal...

BigDaddy, I first took my son the the Speynation(NY) clave 3 yrs ago when he was 10. To say the people there bent over backwards to help him would be an understatement! During that time I was also able to attend the Michigan clave and I would be surprised if you found the people there any less enthusistic about having your son there. Be careful though, he may insist on going up every year!! Enjoy.

Doug Taylor scheduling conflict

As you may have noted in my previous post, Doug Taylor has a scheduling conflict and will be unable to attend, first time ever a Newaygo clave without Doug, we will miss you, although the whiskey will go further!

All who are attending this Clave should ask Gary Kalinka what the difference is between pink and purple and it's effects on spey casting :D

Rookies invited?

Heading up from Indianapolis either Friday night or Saturday morning. Bringing rods that are quite misused, lotsa questions and a bottle of something. I've been looking forward to this for quite awhile and figure it's the best place to start putting some of the pieces together. Either Cronks or my truck should provide adequate shelter depending on how things go.

Anyone along the way wanna hitch a ride?

Tigger, this is one of the best places for a rookie to be! I think you'll be amazed at how many accomplished casters are at this event and at how willing they all are to help you out. It will be worth the drive.
