Went out fishing yesterday with a buddy and the night before he asked if I had any green butt skunks. My answer was "no, should I?" after his answer I tied one up real quick. He fished it hard, and it took some trout yesterday but no big tugs. Didn;t have any hair wing materials as that bag of stuff was raided by the dogs a while back and I had forgotten. oops

Made due with a feather wing version. tied another with a red tail and no JC but I liked this one better.

Maybe its gets the big grab next time out

Off the chain

We've seen so many variants of the venerable GBS that I didn't really expect anything new when I opened your post. Boy was I wrong. I love the green floss tag followed by a green seal? butt - and those mottled feathers dyed green (guinea?) in the tail. Yeah, I'd be happy to make-do with that little confection. BTW - if you're not getting tugs on that one, try tying one in size 6 and see how that does. While I think steelies love big flies fished deep, up on top they seem to prefer smaller flies. Just my observation.

Matt - nice twist to the GBS. If you didn't get hit on THAT - those fish must have been stale or moved on you. :hihi:.
We battled all day yesterday, from 7am to 630pm and no chrome. I tossed quite a few of my recent patterns at them, as well as some from friends. I fished from a size 8 rusty rat Back Eddy sent over to that Gold and Black mixed wing in a size 4. My buddy eventually put on a small hobo spey he had and fished deeper, to no avail.

we skated and fished dry lines. My buddy fished one weighted fly mid day. we hooked many trout but the chrome remain elusive on the Rogue for me. One day on the Umpqua and I hook up, 30 plus days on the Rogue and I'm still head scratching.
