For Sale: Hardy The "Wye" Palakona 12'6" - 3/2 Bamboo Spey Rod in Excellent + Condition. A few items to note:
- All guides are double wrapped at tie-offs.
- Ferrules are wrapped with light copper wire for reinforcement.
- Includes nice ferrule plugs.
- As typical with Hardy rods, the tips are approximately 1" shorter than the other sections. The rod bag is made to accommodate this and protect the tip tops.
- Flexible reel seat which accommodates any length reel foot.
- Rod is marked for a #9 line, which may be about right if using a traditional double taper line. I used a 540 grain Compact Skagit and other heads typical of what I use on a modern 7/8 weight double handed rod.
- The rod comes standard in the heavy cotton rod bag shown. I ordered the aluminum tube from Landmark and had it cut to the correct length.
This rod has only been fished twice, so remains in nearly new condition with no issues at all. $925 shipped and insured within CONUS using PayPal, check, or money order. PM or email at [email protected] if interested. Thanks.

Better than anticipated, actually. I was concerned about being able to balance it properly with the reels I use, and whether it would handle the tips I commonly use. The two times I fished it I used a Scandi with an intermediate polyleader and a Skagit with a Type 6 sink tip. I mostly Snap T and double spey, and the rod was perfectly fine with all of these combinations. Regarding balance, I used a Hardy 3 3/4" wide drum and a Bogdan 2. These both have plenty of capacity for these lines, but I was more concerned about balance. With the downlocking seat on this rod, the reel is mounted somewhat towards the butt, and the balance was fine with either of these. I thought about trying a 4" wide drum, but never did. I wish I could tell you how it was when connected to a steelhead, but I'll need to leave that to the next owner.
