Has the land dispute that is going on at the moment on the Skeena system affected any access points to fishing holes in any rivers in the disputed region ?
I am up in Smithers end of September and plan mainly to fish on the Bulkley and possibly 2 3 days on the Kispiox. I do understand the waters that are in the disputed region, however has anyone fished in this region in last couple of weeks had any problems on the water, or getting to the water. There is couple of runs just below Moricetown that I normally fish, Im wondering if it will be ok leaving the car and fishing the water.

Im travelling a long way to get to BC, would hate to go to all the expense, then find I am walking into a heavy dispute, and have very little water to fish, crowded with disgruntled fishermen stressing to get into the pools.

At the moment it appears everything is in a state of flux. I have not seen any definitive information as to what is going to happen. It appears the ball is the court of the Provincial and Federal Govts and as usual a lot dilly-dallying is going on.

I guess it's just to early to say what is going to happen. Myself, I've put everything on hold until some kind of negotiations are happening..

Cheers,
Mike

Do rental car insurance policies cover vandalism?

Without a lot of facts to go on, the ways in which FN can seek to enforce a ban include physical confrontation (I've read of one instance in which a Kispiox angler was shown a gun as an inducement to leave disputed water), blocked road access (e.g. felled trees) and vandalized vehicles.

Does anyone know whether the rental car companies (National comes to mind) are going to cover vandalism via their various insurance options?

I'm hoping it gets sorted out. The most recent newspaper article with the "50 year good run is over" wasn't encouraging.

If you take the full coverage and anything happens to the car you fill out an incident report and walk away(Avis and Budget).

Extra auto insurance endorsement.

If you do drive 'out side' of the United States don't forget to get the additional endorsement(s) for your auto insurance. Can't speak for now but mine was a little yellow card you just stuck in your wallet. If you get into a 'fender bender' proof of insurance coverage will be the first thing you'll be asked to show.

Back then the additional cost on my auto policy was five bucks; no idea what it would be now. But get the card!

Fred, You rent a car in the US and are driving into Canada you tell the rental company as there is now a separate insurance card you have to show at the border crossing. If you do not have it you will not be allowed to take a US rental car into Canada.

There are NO EVICTIONS NOW. The tribe has moved the date for the evictions to 16 Sep. There will be a meeting with the tribes with the Govt on 6 sep. Reading the info from the tribe, they feel they will get there demands. Go to thread 107. From two very good sources, and have been fishing in the lower bulkly , have had no problems, and do not know of any. Tried to get info from Oscar,s, but the have not replied to me. Remember the Bulkly above Moricetown and all the way up the Morice IS NOT affected by this issue. I am going to bet on the tribe getting there demands and head on up the first of Sep, and fishing will be normal.

Very well behind the 'What's now.' Remember the old days when you had the wife and two kids in the Station Wagon and 'Where are you going Sir?'

'To see my Grandmother and Aunt.'

'Drive safe and have a good time.'

We did. GM made a hell of a good Apple Pie. I'd go get the ice cream; that was dinner. A very good dinner; kids loved it. Bye the Bye 'Grannie' (sp?)could/would beat your axx off at cards.

'I bet 10 tooth picks.'

kids look at me, I look at them .. 'She's bluffing.' And push them into the middle of the table. Extraordinary Lady in my, and I hope the kids remember, life. As was my Russian Grandparents in Manitoba Canada.

With 'Papa' the 'chips' were sun flower seeds. BANG hand on the table and 'VE play cards.' Kerosine lantern on the table and the cards flopped, until I fell asleep and woke up in bed the next morning.

You're right Fred. Those were the days, and I'm glad I was there to see them, smell them, feel them, fish them!

I'm afraid those days and the attitudes that went with them are long gone.

I grew up in a town very much like Mayberry. No locked doors, fly rods leaning against the wall outside the screen door, keys in the ignition of my 1950 Ford pickup, ready to go.

sigh..................

OK, enough of that. Back to your regularly scheduled program.

I guess everyone's grandma was a card shark

WD: thanks for the Avis and Budget info. I need to check with National in Smithers

16 Sep feels like a big day

Grandma Bessie used to take nickels and dimes off the little people with disturbing regularity. It was only after she passed and we were going through her personal belongings that we realized she was a card mechanic in her youth. (She also left $10,153.35 in quarters, dimes and nickels under her bed.)

Gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme....where does it ever end with these people.Gimme a free house, gimme a check every month for doing absolutely nothing aside from being born, gimme a million dollars because my grandmother was allegedly abused as a schoolgirl, gimme all of the benefits of being Canadian with none of the responsibilities of working for a living or paying taxes, gimme a free education so I can become a lawyer and fight for even more freebies.....when is our government and/or hardworking, taxpaying Canadians gonna grow a pair and say enough is enough?Personally,I'm sick of apologizing and paying for sheet that happened 200 years ago!

...and before anyone gets there panties in a knot and screams racist, riddle me this??
What do you call it when a collective group of people representing 3%(?) of a population enjoy special benefits,privelages,and...ahem...."rights",based SOLELY on the bloodline that they were born into?
If that's not THE definition of racism and discrimination, then I don't know what is?

Thanks for the reply's, still seams to be bit of a sticky issue, will just have to keep ears and eyes open, and hope there is a positive outcome on 16th sept. Will still be heading out there, although there is still plenty of accessible water could be very crowded in some pools and bit stressful, not exactly a serene fishing environment, but what to do, just can't stay at home when there's a steely with my name on it waiting for me.

My favourite bit of water, just below Moricetown might be bit iffy, would hate to return to find my car in bits and pieces, and a long walk back to the main road, and thats if I can even get down to the parking spot. Even if the outcome is positive I won't be fishing some bits of water on my own.

Lets just hope the outcome on the 16th puts this issue to bed, or it could be a long drawn out issue that keeps on reappearing, and worse still is the opening of the floodgates. Could be the beginning new times ahead for BC, but in reality its an issue that has been grumbling away for to long, and in the back of everyones mind its been there for a long time and we all know its just not going to go away.

Im just sitting here with hope, that 1 of the most stunningly beautiful pieces of fishing waters in the world is open to all for future generations.

Well if you decide or things get worse in the Skeena region, come fishing with us, I flying from Aberdeen to Vancouver around the same time but not heading to the Skeena region, 5 of us are leaving Speyside and decided to do a little fishing tour of the mainland and Van Island for a couple of weeks that I do every year, just checking up on a little know Steelhead river on Vancouver Island.

God! Did I need a good laugh! Still have this tupper ware container with the nicks-dime-pennies we'd play with. Deck of cards and low flop won. Unless you called 'high card.'

I will NEVER cash that money in at the bank. Every one of those coins is a memory. Playing card game ( board cards were really a deck of cards) 'Bingo' in the RV park next to the Chetco River (heavy rain and blown out) so cards, "A-5" or what ever, and a coin went on your card(s).

Good times, very good times.

This says it much better than anything I can come up with. It's a long watch, but worth every minute of it. Maybe before we come down too hard on the First Nations People, we might consider working with them in an effort to preserve this incredible resource from destruction in the name of "progress" Someone should take a group of these CEO's on a week long float from Houston to Terrace. (Is that doable in a week? If not, then what ever it takes) Get them out of their three piece suits & into chest high waders, from their comfortable offices into areas only accessible by a three or four day drift, in or out.
