Hey guys,

I know it's not totally spey related but I will bringing my two hander with me down to the Cape. I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences fishing down there? Im hoping to do the beach thing for roosters and a few days offshore chasing some tunas and billfish. I'm kinda puzzled on which flies I need to tye. Small, big, flashy, etc? Everything I've read is about sardinas but from what I've heard they are not around much now. I also heard the roosters can more picky than permit when it comes to fly patterns. That's why I want to make sure I get the flies just right. Thanks so much guys! As you can see I'm very pumped to get down there.

You will get a better response if you post this question at http://www.danblanton.com/bulletin.php There are lots of guys that fish Baja on that website. Even if you do a search on his site for this information, you'll get more than will be required.

Olive and white clousers were very productive when I was there. I would bring several different color combinations in several different sizes. Don't forget some poppers and crease flies. However, if the bait fish are not around, you will have a hard time finding fish near the shore.

Olive over white, closers or cone-head tubes. Chartruse, blue, or red over white. I recommend a #9 SH or a strong #8 SH over the two-hander, for Rooster Fish are right on the beach, and spooky. Therefore no anchored casts and no wading. You'll have to walk/run along the shore-line and be ready to shoot when you see them push baitfish right on-to the shore-breakers. You may never see them from a boat.

The weeks around Easter Sunday (Semena Santa holidays) are prime time for roosters near the beach. But you should find plenty of Dolphin somewhat near-shore. Hire a parga. I know someone if you are interested.
