Can any of you recommend any good dvds on summer/fall steelhead flyfishing or even better steelhead speyfishing from the pacific northwest? Tips on where I can order them will be appreciated as well.
Thank you PhilsterPhilster said:Well, my favorite "how to fish" DVD is actually a casting DVD. Dec Hogan's Casting DVD has some of the best filmed, and most direct, straight forward, why say it in an hour when you can say it in five minutes steelheading advice out there. I don't know that I would recommend buying it just for the one third of the tape that covers fishing, but if you can borrow it, or if you are interested in casting 50 foot windcutter/delta style lines, it is a good tape.
To boil it down, pay attention to current seams.
When covering broad even waters where the fish might be holding anywhere, cast at enough of an angle to avoid having to mend so you are fishing the instant the fly touches down.
Make every cast count and fish them all out like you will catch a fish in the next 5 seconds.
Don't over cast. Start every run right at your feet and work out just enough line to cover what you need.
Sounds pretty obvious and is stuff you probably already know, but it is presented well and his enthusiasm is contagious.
