Here's a good pair of clips that illustrate the difference between a D Loop and a V Loop. Notice that the path of the rod tip determines the shape of the loop.

So, from what I can tell the main difference between the two is a more vertical rod position with a small kick at the top for the V-loop and a tip that drops back a bit more for the D-loop. Am I seeing this right?
Mark, with any rod angle if you focus on moving your rod tip in as straight a path as possible with a small upward movement at the end should give you the sexy V loop.
