I just purchased a Windcutter 7/8/9, however I was wondering at what point in the line can I cut it to place a loop on it to connect a sink tip? Also, is it possible to fish an indicator with the windcutter? Perhaps with the front portion of the running line cut off.

Thanks for any answers...2tancaddis

Cutting Windcutter

2Tan

You can go to the RIO websitehttp: http://www.rioproducts.com and find that they cut 15' off the tip of the line. They also make a second cut at 30' giving a tip-2 that may be removed for heavier than normal tips or very windy conditions, or Skagit style or underhand casting. They also have a new tip-2 replecement of intermediate sink rate that helps tips get down better.

There is a taper break at 17.5' on the Windcutter 7/8/9 according to their specs. I use the Windcutter for sink tip fishing - and only sink tip fishing - and took that into account when cutting my tip.

A cut at 15' leaves 2.5' of level section before the loop junction. I didn't want this level section, so I cut mine at 17.5' to get the full energy of turnover from the taper section.

pretty sure that RIO is a sponsor, so here goes....

Cut it I just bought the wind cutter 7/8/9 and used it once with a Rio T-14 sink tip. Did not seem too awkward to cast to me.

But remember I have been throwing deep water express and other heavy sink tips for 20 years. I would probably not know what a balanced cast was after throwing this stuff for this long.

High Tech Chain for Hooking?

The secret is out PM uses high tech chain to hook his steelhead. Is that really 14 gains per foot? How deep does it get?

I am a little surprised it works at all on a 7/8/9 windcutter, but I guess that is a 9 weight head isn't it.

I see he has gone over 3000 posts. He has a lot of wisdom to share with us.
