I have a 9/10 Wulff Triangle Taper Spey I'd like to cut and loop for sinking heads. Has anyone ever cut one of these. If so how far back would you recommend. I don't usually fish heads longer than 15'.

Thanks

Hi PP: I dont have a TT9/10 but I do have a 7/8,a 10/11 and a 11/12. On the advice of my rod builder I have cut each of my tt`s at 15' for use with airflo salmon tips of 10' extra fast sink, and have made a second cut leaving 30 ' of butt section for use with deepwater express heads of 10,15'and 20' cut from 550 grain DE or 850 gr . I find that the lines also cast well in the wind with the 15' tip removed.

DE on TT7/8

LA
Do you really use DE with a TT 7/8? I would think the dirrerence in grains would lead to hinging? What rod do you use?

Hi TR: I only use a 5'length of DE plus a 10 ' airflo tip on the 7/8 which is a custom rod designed for me by my rod builder Bill Lynch of Benshona Custom Rods. Its a 14' built from a talon 6wt 91/2' with a butt section from a sage light bait rod.
I usually use an underhand spey with about 20'. of floating butt outside the tip plus the 15 feet of sink tip. It casts surprisingly well out to about 75 ' I use this rod and rig for summer runsteelhead ,pink salmon and larger rt.
