How many line combinations have people found that work?
I’ve tried six different set-ups
SA Short Heads
Rio Scan Head, Midspey, Wincutter
Home made lines
Etc.
Would like hear about other combo’s

Some I've used

8/9 long delta
WC 10/11/12 with tip two removed & sink tips
8/9 Mastery Mid Head (frustrating it was supposed to be the short one) too heavy for the full head
7/8 XLT good to 75 -80 feet of head out
Home made heads

This past weekend in San Francisco I spent some time with the Skagit and an Airflo Traditional 8/9, it was very good. Like most progressive rods it doesn't like to be "forced" but a smooth easy stroke produced a beautiful cast with the long belly Traditional.

Brian,

Have you had a chance to try all the aforementioned lines? I was wondering what your thoughts were!

Also, which MidSpey line and Winductter lines did you try?

Thanks in advance,

I decide on the SA Spey Head Short line, it just felt better.
I use this rod for sink-tip fishing the Skagit, I cut 14 ft. off the tip and put one of Ed Ward style sink-tips on it and it feels great.

Theses are the lines I tried on it they all work fine on it.

Midspey 8/9 640 grains
SA SHS 8/9 650 grains
SA Spey 8/9 650 grains
Windcutter 9/10/11 650 grains
Airflo Delta Spey 9/10 630 grains
Hardy Mach 1 10/11 648 grains

Brian,

Thanks much for the quick reply! I've been impressed with the CND Steelhead Specialist and was wondering if I could use some of the same lines on it as on the Skagit Specialist. Sure looks as though I can.

By the way, how was your "little trip" last month? :)

Looking forward to meeting you on the water one of these days....

I forgot one Carron Jetstream 10/11 (for a dry line)
Try it you'll like it!
