If it was possible to hand someone a rod and they cast 120-150 right away I fear speypages, books, dvds, etc would not need to be around.

Casting even 100' consistently takes a good amount of practice and probably less than 20% of people I see on the river get close to 90' so asking 120 might be a but much to ask for. Break out the spinning rod for those clients :chuckle:

hmmm

Hammer - I suggest a shooting head and a little overhead casting with a 15' progressive/fast action two hander for your 120' if Sean's option (practice, practice, practice) isn't an option.

Sean - yeah, I hear ya!

Sinktip - funny you should suggest that. See you on the water . . . :hihi:

Hey Hammer...

Where are your BIG sticks? Surely you have one tucked away that will reach a third of the way to your target just by holding the rod over the water. Your haven't been talking about those BIG sticks lately. Did you run out of "Geritol"? :saevilw:

the big stix!

they rule out there;the lower middle Rogue, that's why i keep them, and i thought about that on the drive out there,i was undergunned with a 16ft.11-12,,,some of the areas out there i just roll cast in between the brush and let it dangle, other sections you can overhead if the rod is long enough to clear the brush, big weekend here with boat races and many people camped out, wich i avoided,,and they of course were in the prime areas for the `normal regimen',cast/swing/step,,,but the real reason i've been using my 16 is,,,waiting for the Altmor :smokin: ,,maybe today :hihi: ,i had the wrong line last night!,,,too many lines,,,all the wulff tt's have been unused,,grabbed the wrong reel it was too light/short a head,,,i might focus on that water with my drifter,,,it's a mystery to most as far as flyfisher's go,a REAL challenge,,,and for the most part uninhabited,it truly is special water,,not the total comercialization and crowds of the `upper Rogue' this time of year,,,two ways to fish here as i see it,either get in line with everybody else or go the other direction and fish for the next run coming,,summer steelhead :smokin: instead of spring salmon on the upper,,,,i am going up there though,,,before i smolt out to the coast,,,i have to guide up there just to say i've done it,and it's going to be tough for me,,,not my style,,,,a carnival,,might only make one trip before i say pizzzz on it,,,ah well, the challenges are many,,,the rewards great!,,,now where's meAltmor! :hihi:

more apologies

i guess it's tough for me to post anything in a fun manner,so much get's lost in the translation from intent to printed matter  ,i had a pm wich i answered and attempted to send but,,lost it due to my folder being full,,,so i'll print it here,i feel all speycasters should cast an 18 or two just to get the feel for them,as i believe much could be gained from casting them and this could be transferred to the shorter lighter faster sticks that one would buy to use all day long, witch i also love,so,it's not that the Rogue cannot be fished with any other length of rod=it can,,,certain secret hideouts i go too witch nobody else does,,,can be fished a bit more effectively with the longrods, and the whole of the membership here is always welcome to cast the two 18's i have,,,so no intention on degrading ANY shorter rod was intended,,,and it's all moot for me as i have to go now,,,,and be a good boy,,,i guess in my heart i knew i had to go out last night for a last `fling',it's time to go to work :( guiding with bait :( ,so, i won't be here till summer steelhead are enforce and i can contribute=peace!,,and sincere aplogies to anyone i scorched with my reverie :D

hey!

i'm supposed to bebeing a good boy and be quietly heading off to bed,,,and NO!,,i won't PM you a list,,,i'd prefer to pass on the chance to other less fortunate souls who need a good clean addiction, like two-handing their home waters :lildevl: ,,just kidding!,,,i do have the one rod i listed here and possibly a 16ft. kevlar rod,,less than ten minutes use,i had too see if it actually worked ;) been a backup for nearly two years, superpowerful rod, mediumslowfast? but will haul whatever you strap on the front; whole bodies can be flung far off with it! :Eyecrazy: ,and,well,e-mail me,who knows!,,i'm going on upriver tomorrow flingin' bait and other ugly things :whoa: ,i DO know that much,i simply have to go with the flow :)
