Let me just say that I don't like the tone of the word or phrase "Closed Thread". I'm sure that after a few more post this thread would have died a natural death. Now we will never know just how long it would have lived and maybe more importanly if it spawned any offsprings.

point taken, moonlight!

we don't venture into forms of censorship lightly here at the Forum, but if you read through a few of the posts on the Clearwater thread it is evident that the boundaries of "gentlemanly conduct" were being pushed. The thread is closed but not deleted, I think giving all noble posters an opportunity to consider the many excellent points therein, and to serve as a gentle reminder to others that we really want to keep things above the belt around here.

I've been running the Clave in this and its original form for 3 years now and I can still count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I have felt the need to step in and delete or derail an inappropriate use of the board. As Sean noted our regular members are passionate but well-intentioned people who seek to better the sport and themselves through the sport. And every now and then it is worth reminding ourselves that it's important to keep it that way. :)

It is amazing that those who exploit will call those who want to conserve, selfish, sounds just like the oil companies and one of our political party's. I don't feel guilty and nor should the rest of you who feel the same.
It's time to take the grandson fishing with a bobber and worm for sun fish, maybe even eat a couple for dinner. I'm begining to hope he never has the desire to pick up a fly rod.
I would like to thank publicly those who do not visit this site who have an open enough mind to understand that fly fishermen can stink just like everyone else including themselves. They have worked hard over the last 10 or more years to change the sad direction fly fishing is going.

thanks for the note, OC!

I think one of the greatest problems with fly fishing today is that much of the old world traditions and high-mindedness (the cynics might call this "elitism") have been abandoned or lost by a newer generation of anglers. Part of the reason why I set up my sites and joined with the Forum was the hope that, through the sharing of knowledge and information among kindred spirits we might re-discover something of what seems to have been lost.

Takin' a child out for sunfish is soundin' like a great plan to me!

Dana speaks the truth on the 'fingers of one hand.'

I've been a member of the spey board from almost it's inception; and I think this may be #4. I think that speaks very well for the Board, its members and the guy with the funny beard who runs the show.

GOOD SHOW!!!!

Wow, that Clearwater thread... And I was so sick and bedridden for the past several days that I missed it; had I been able to post, I'm sure it would have bled to death earlier. Great posts from differing points of view, and like most such threads, no clear answers. Thanks, ALL, for taking the time.

Yeah, there is a time when it is best to close the thread (like before it gets completely axed - I know having the distinction of having two of my rants completely wiped, i.e., no archive). I'm sure though that this is not the last time this (these) particular issue(s) will surface. Nothing wrong with a cooling-off period.

To Juro, Dana, and Sean... love you guys, really!

I'll second many of the aforementioned comments...this site rarely needs any sort of censoring...yet sometimes it is neccasary. The Clearwater thread contained many differnt subjects and discussions amongst many differnt people and one felt the need to post the same lies over and over and over again; Juro, Sean and Dana do one Hell of a Job; and sometimes it is wonderful to enjoy the small things in life/fishing.

This summer I took a hiatus...it first began as a goal of mine to search out some mountain/high elavation stream summer steelhead. I knew they were up there somewhere and it way my goal to find them.

What began as a steelhead expidition, manifested into summer days spent exploring some of our lovely little mountain streams in search of trout. Although my success was limited (and I still do not know where the Hell those steelhead go), I enjoyed every minute.

I was so far away from the camotion, controversy, bickering etc. and my deepest love-the steelhead and having a grand time.

...and maybe next year, I might even be able to pull a trout or two out one of these lovely little streams. Or maybe not...oh well. :)

Yeah I'm back and as onry as ever. Just got a bad "stomach" flu or something, couldn't eat for several days and just wanted to sleep. Jeesh but that gets real old quick.

The good news was all the Friday Funnies I had to catch up with ;) , thanks.

OC,

Does that mean that some of the rest of us who found some of the polaces where they go would likewise have a contract put out on us if we told? Actually, since I grew up in Pennsylvania and lived in Northeastern Pennsylvania in mafia country, I would rather not get the mafia angry with me either. Ryan, sorry, the mafia has spoken.

"OC's" right about the fish on the door step.

Maybe it's been too long since I've seen the movie "The Godfather," but wasn't a fish wrapped in newspaper on your doorstep 'not a good thing.' "Sleeps with the fishes" kinda stuff.

OC,

That's what I was talking about. No dead sunfish on my doorstep, thank you.

Besides, what's a headwater or upstream area that the steelhead fishies might be found in? Nope, I know nothing of such things.

Watersprite,
I know I should have stoped long ago but: OC is really a reversed acronym for "It's a CRIME flyfishing is so ORGANIZED"!

It's raining hard.
Ya got to wait.
It's raining hard.
for the trash to disapate.

Seven sofa's by
The rains have come
Summer full of oil changes
will float bye.

closed thread

Just new to the board and have really enjoyed the dialogue and information on Spey style of fishing. I am posting here rather than starting a new thread under general as it pertains to the Clearwater thread. The thread was interesting for me as I am a Ralph Klein boy and one of the over 50 old f%$ts that still get out and roam around the country fishing. "Clearwater" issues are as prevalent in Alberta as anywhere else and I am sure will become even more prevalent as time passes. A suggestion for future moderation leading up to a closing of a thread, especially as it relates to Bob Ball and Marketic and especially as how infrequent it apparently happens. I felt Bob had an opportunity to respond to Marketic comments but in doing so left some unanswered questions. I think Marketic should have had the opportunity to respond. Enter the moderator.....At this point the moderator may have notified the participants that they would each get one more opportunity to respond and THEN the thread would be closed. This would allow both parties to take pause and compose hopefully a thoughtfully response. Clipping the thread as such I think did a real disservice to both parties (BoB Ball and Marketic)in this instance. Just a thought.

Well said,

I couldn't agree more I was pretty bummed that the thread closed with one post from a somewhat notorious if not controversial figure making a defensive post about his lack of responsibility for crowding on certain rivers. While the individual is not solely responsible he is sure as hell more responsible than anyone that I can conjure up for the increased anglers on the OP.

Good to meet you WF as another over the hill sort I say greetings and welcome to the party!!!

I find it intresting

It seems that most of the place I fish on a regulard basis have become more crowded in recent years and it seems that others have been complaining about certain rivers being overcrowded as well...rivers that have nothing to do with the OP nor the aforementioned webmaster!!

The Skykomish?? Crowded...anyone noticed the sled parade in recents years??...I am sure it is the webmaster in question's fault.

The Sauk???...I have never seen it as crowded as it was this past spring! (more to come)

The NF Stilly??...this summer was the worst ever...they were actually able to chase me to my late summer haunts much sooner then usual.

The Grande Rhone???...everyone I talked to this fall had nothing much to say about the river but how crowded it was.

The Yakima??...more and more people hit the river every year!!

The lakes of E. Wa....there were a few lakes where you could have walked across the pontoon boots and floattubes to get to the other side.

The Clearwater...the Thompson?? Crowded...crowded!!

So many other waters that have nothing to do with the above mentioned webmaster?? Crowded, crowded...too crowded, overly crowded etc. etc. etc.!!!

Notice a pattern...

So somehow the crowding on the OP is due to this certain webmaster and not from the other factors that have caused crowding on so many other waters????!?!?

The steelhead fishing in Puget Sound in the past winters has been awful...where are all these people going to go?? The Olympic Peninsula ofcourse!!! But its all his fault!!!!

Go bark up another tree!! :tsk_tsk:
