I want to share a method of choosing a spey reel that has been successful for me. It is a little technical in the calculation of variables in the formula for a hollow cylinder. This is necessary for the building block approach. There are two parts necessary to explore the method:
1. Choosing a Spey Reel is a Word document (184 kB) in a notebook format that explains the method and lists an example using inch units and another using metric units. You can easily click on a folder tab to access various sections of information relating to SpeyReel.xls.
2. SpeyReel is an Excel spreadsheet (111 kB). This is the data base for obtaining weights, geometry and volume characteristics of reels, lines and running lines. All of the data listings are shown in inch and metric units.

The files are available with a protected status. If a user needs to enter a custom set of data, I will send an unprotected version and the files may be modified. My email address is [email protected]. Please email me for the two files and you can review the programs to see if there is further interest. I am sure that upon a review, fellow Spey Page members will find areas that need to be tweaked. I am available for all on line help as well as revisions to improve the method.

I hope you find this method useful.
