I think that is actually a huchen, Salmo hucho. Probably the best known population is in the River Danube, it is sometimes called the Danube Salmon. I think it is the same as, or very similar to, the Mongolian Taimen
It is on the 'Red List' of endangered species. Shame this magnificent fish appears to have been killed.
Yup, that is indeed a taimen. Hucho taimen is the scientific name. I guess regionally they have different handles. And yup, a bloody shame such a magnificent fish was killed. Definitely on my list of dream species. Hope they hold out long enough for me to bring that dream to fruition.
