Maybe I'm just getting 'old,' NO ONE TOUCH THAT!, but three new silk lines from the UK on my desk. I don't even remember ordering the things ... Did I, or were they just sent to me?

Tags on the lines say 6, a 6/7, and an 8 (no comment on length, but I'd guess about 90 feet) is there anything I need to do with these before putting them on a reel? I have a 'Boo Spey' across from me that beg's for one of these. Which would be my next question: Are these for single hander rods or 2handers?

No clue, no clue.

Roger that.

First check to see if they are WF or DT. If WF, I doubt they will be of much use on a DH rod as their 1st 30' will by too light to do much except on some very light rods. If DT, calculate their weight at an optimal casting distance and match that weight to the appropriate spey or switch rod. Strip off that length and make that cast over and over. No stripping in or shooting. Just like old times.
One tag says a DT 8, another a DT 7 and the third (obviously a sink tip config) says "Reid Scandi 6/7 @410 grains." Think I need to lay one of these out on the street with a long tape measure and get the length. One of the 'cool bits' is the lines are properly rolled up but the holding straps (for a lack of a better term) is actually peelings from bamboo.

Lines made in China???

Had to laugh.

Take a knife and make a wedge to a dinner table edge 5 ft from the end and line lengths are very easy and fast to measure just pulling from hand to hand. Perhaps you get few more days to use lines as well...

Years ago I read that 'finger tip to finger tip' was your height ... I clocked in at 6 foot, actual was 5-11.75 so that worked out pretty good. I'll just unroll one of these things and do the 'tip to tip' and see where I come out.

MANY THANKS for the update.

Fred,

I see from your post that the trial lines have turned up with you - give them a shot with your double hand bamboo and see what happens! A quick grease with red tin mucilin will be all they need.

I sent the DT7 and DT8 as those are the 'classic' lines for casting on the DH cane, and as we weren't sure what size line your rod would handle, I sent both. You can spey cast them but they won't shoot very well. They will overhead cast supremely well. The Reid Scandi will go like a rat up a drainpipe clear across most rivers - your choice of polyleader on it to get the fly down (or up) to where you want it.

Once you've tried them out (give them a good trial, a few weeks is recommended!) let me know which one suits your rod best.

Oh...(edit)...they should all be around 90' (30 yards ) long...

Regards,

Stuart
This will sound silly, perhaps, but still have the envelope from the lines on the floor of my office. Have new reels coming to me from Canada and they will get lined up 'Pronto.' The 6/7 Boo is sitting about 4 feet from me; just needs proper line.:smokin:

Loved this: "The Reid Scandi will go like a rat up a drainpipe clear across most rivers -..." only a Brit could come with such great descriptive language. With some serious exceptions, 'Murican's just don't understand the delight in our 'common language.' Have to paraphrase here: 'Two Peoples separated by a common language.' He was right.

"Brevity is the sum of all whit." Plack (sp?) on my office wall for years; someone shooting off his mouth and I'd just point to it. Worked most of the time, not all. Finally retired, for the last time, and young fellow came into my office and 'Mr. Evans, may I have that?'

Not going to send the lines back, list of older fellows who want to try them ... no surprise there. Shoot me a PM, or e mail, on how much I owe you. Will take up a 'collection,' enough to also cover a good bottle of Single Malt. Amazing the collective stories these guys have. "Remember the time when we were on the ...." Indeed we did. Motor home stuffed with wet old men and a couple of Dogs. Them sleeping in tents was a non-starter; complete 'non-starter.'

Dogs, theirs and mine .. SNUFF-SNORT and to sleep. Few days later and the MH smelled like a Sheep Ranch, even the cat objected. Cat ran the place and the Dogs 'Knew their place.' HISSSSSSS ... 'Saki, would shut the fuxk up you are scaring the Dogs.' HISSSSSSSsssssssss.

But I wander in memories. Most good, some not.

String of FOUR LETTER WORDS!

Just put the rods in the rack on the Jeep, jump in, key in ignition slot and ....

'click-click-click.' FRICKIN BATTERY IS DEAD!:confused::confused:

Connect battery charger, go inside and make a pot of tea.

Fred is NOT a happy person.
